Management Asbestos Survey
Generally required for all non-domestic premises.  The aim is to identify and assess asbestos materials which may become disturbed through normal occupancy or routine maintenance work.

Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012
The aim of a Management Asbestos Survey is to locate, as far as reasonably practicable, the presence and extent of any suspect asbestos materials which could be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy, including foreseeable maintenance and installation, and to assess their condition.
This is the standard survey.  It is generally non-intrusive however some intrusive inspection techniques may be required depending on the type of building, the nature of construction, accessibility etc.
The survey will include an assessment of each asbestos material identified, this is known as a Material Assessment.  This is generally given as a score based on the material type, the extent of damage, the surface treatment and the asbestos content.  HSG264 defines how this score is calculated and the maximum (highest risk) score is 12.
The Material Assessment Score is only half the assessment.  The Priority Assessment Score follows, and is usually carried out by the Duty Holder.  We can carry this out however we prefer you to do this as you know the buildings and the use of each area much better than us.  We can work with you on this but we cannot do it for you completely, you have to be involved in this.
Buildings built prior to 2001 can generally be considered asbestos-free however this may not always be the case as asbestos materials may have been inadvertently introduced.
